In order to improve the employability of the students by imparting required skills and making them industry ready, it has been decided by AICTE to introduce mandatory internship for students from the session 2017 – 18.

Engineering Council of India (ECI) was established on April 4, 2002 as a Federation, in the form of a Not-for-Profit Registered Society, by coming together of a large number of Indian Professional Organizations /Institutions of Engineers to work for the advancement of engineering profession in various disciplines and for enhancing the image of engineers in society, by focusing on quality and accountability of engineers. Today there are 32 Indian Engineering Professional Associations/ Institutions, as members, representing practically all engineering streams.

The 15th National Conference of Engineering Council of India (ECI) on the Theme: ‘Preparing Engineers/Technologists for Role in Industry’ which was held on November 10, 2017 at New Delhi was very successful and was attended by about 500 participants.

It was inaugurated by Dr. Satya Pal Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State for Human Resources Development (Higher Education). The Engineering Council of India and its Member Associations greatly appreciates the support provided to this conference by all. It has helped ECI in a great measure in furthering its objectives to strengthen the engineering profession in the country so as to serve better the Indian industry and economy.

Eminent Engineer’s Award 2018 were held on April 4, 2018 at Mirza Ghalib Chamber, SCOPE Complex, New Delhi.

Dr. Bibek Debroy, Chairman, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, & Member, Niti Aayog was the chief guest of the programme. The programme was successful and was well attended. The Awards, Jury were represented by Dr. Kirit Parikh, Chairman Integrated Research and Action for Development (IRADe) and former Member, Planning Commission and Dr. D.V. Kapur, Founder Chairman of NTPC. ‘Eminent Engineer’ awards was conferred on Prof. J. B. Joshi in the Research/Consultancy category and Shri Nanadan Nilekani for the industry category.

One new award Chairman ECI's Award was introduced from this year which were conferred on 1. Dr. K Sivan, Chairman, ISRO, Secretary, DOS, for achievements in the Space Sector, 2. Lt. Gen Suresh Sharma, AVSM, Engineer-in Chief, Senior Colonel Commandant, The Corps of Engineers, for achievements in the Defence Sector 3. Shri T. Suvarna Raju, CMD, HAL and 4. R Adm. Shekhar Mital, NM, IN (Retd.), CMD, GOA Shipyard Limited, both for achievements in the Industry Sector.
